A null is not the same as 0 or blank. Null means no entry has been made for the column and it implies that the value is either unknown or not applicable. A null column is not equal to, greater than, or less than any other column or value, even another null. It is just unknown. - Craig S. Mullins

In the aftermath of Obama’s unsolicited, controversial dictates over the Ground Zero mosque debate, White House image-makers are now trying to convince the public he is a devout Christian. Specific to that point, he may not be a Muslim, but I’m convinced he isn’t a Christian, either. As evidence of his devoutness, the White House has entered into evidence that he allegedly prays every day. Let me be clear – praying every day no more makes one a Christian than walking across a stream makes one a fisherman. A true Christian, i.e., a born-again believer, is a person who has put his faith and trust in the person and work of Jesus Christ – including His sacrificial death on the cross as propitiation/payment for our sins, His crucifixion and resurrection and the understanding that this same Jesus will, at a time appointed return to gather unto Himself His own. - Mychal Massie
Three studies also show that demographics, income and education level of homeschooling parents are generally irrelevant with regard to quality of education in a home setting. On average, homeschoolers in low-income families with less formal education still score higher than state-school averages. - Chelsea Schilling
The idea is that object relational databases like MySQL and PostgreSQL have lapsed their useful lifetimes, and that document-based or schemaless databases are the wave of the future. Never mind of course that MySQL was the perfect solution to everything a few years ago when Ruby on Rails was flashing in the pan. Never mind that real businesses track all of their data in SQL databases that scale just fine. (For Silicon Valley readers, Walmart is a real business, Twitter is not.) - Ted Dziuba

That number, whether 0 or 10 or 528, refers to the priority of the Mx server. That priority is a relative value, relative to the priority set for other Mx servers for the domain. If you have just one Mx server, then the number you choose is irrelevant because it isn’t relative to any other servers anyway. - alan-tor

The modern calendar is full of historical quirks and politics and for the most part, has no sense of consistency. Weeks and most months have a prime-number of days, which means simple phrases like “half a month” or “half a week” are ambiguous. The day rollover occurs at midnight, a time that many people are still awake. Daylight savings is no longer as important as it was when it was created and causes more confusion than convenience. The calendar also has no correlation with seasons, something we culturally force it to do, and sometimes incorrectly like associating December with winter, for example. Most of December is in Autumn in the northern hemisphere while in the southern hemisphere, December is spring and summer. - Blake O’Hare
The problem may not be that these programmers can’t program. It’s that they can’t read! I think reading comprehension must be at an all-time low among graduating programmers. Perhaps it’s time to bring back more word problems in our curriculum. Of course we’ve all seen this lack of reading comprehension in comments to our blog posts, haven’t we? As in when someone completely argues against a misinterpretation of your post. - Phil Haack
